Seedstars Abidjan event awards REMA the title of best startup in Ivory Coast

On the 26th of October, during Seedstars Abidjan, REMA won the Cameroon round of Seedstars World and will represent the country at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland to compete for up to USD one million in equity investment and other prizes.

Abidjan, Cameroon, 29th of October, 2018 Seedstars World, the largest seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, brought its Cameroon round to a successful close during Seedstars Abidjan. The event took place at Seedspace Abidjan, and 11  selected startups were invited to present their companies in front of the local jury panel.

The local winner, REMA, is a collaborative medicine service dedicated to African doctors for better medical decisions, was named “Best Startup in Abidjan” for its innovative sustainable solution. “applying

to Seedstars is one of the best decisions I have had to make in my life as an entrepreneur and winning is a huge joy for me”, explains Sedric DEGBO, CEO at REMA.

As a part of the prize, REMA will be participating at the Seedstars Summit, which takes place in Switzerland, in April 2019. It is a weeklong training program, with the opportunity to meet the 65+ winners from other fast growing economies, as well as investors and mentors from around the world. The final day of the Summit is dedicated to pitching in front of an audience of more than 1000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to USD one million in equity investment and other prizes.

The 11 startups pitched in front of a prestigious jury, including Ismael CISSE, Cheikh DIALLO, Clyde VACHER, Josephine NDAO.

The local Ambassador of Seedstars World, IFID, organized the event with Seedstars World. Further support was provided by Makesense, Seedspace Abidjan, Alassaut, Fondation Jeunesse Numérique, Ovillage and Bora Digital.  and media partners. The event attracted interest from over 57 startups, and around 120 attendees.

Dothan Group, with its fun mobile application that allows traders to manage their accounting easily and get bank’s credit, came second and TIKKEO, with its online event & ticketing platform, allows anyone to buy their ticket without moving with their mobile money account, grabbed the last spot in the top 3. The other startups invited to pitch were Afroshop, Aladain, DISTRICASH, Moja Wallet, Oschool E-learning, YEFA, ZENAPI, ILKREA.

After this stop at Abidjan, TIA Ivan Paul Emmanuel , Associate for West Africa at Seedstars, says “the rise in the level of startups in abidjan is surprising from year to year. We are delighted with the impact we have on entrepreneurship in Côte d’Ivoire.”

Continuing on its world tour of fast-growing startup scenes in emerging markets, Seedstars World’s next stop is Douala at ActivSpaces, to select the best startup in Cameroon. Seedstars World is looking for smart startups that solve regional issues and/or develop profitable products for the global market.
